HuurScout Privacy Statement (Revised)
We value your privacy. This statement explains how we handle your personal data.
1. Data Controller
HuurScout, based in Utrecht, The Netherlands, is responsible for processing your personal data as described in this privacy statement.
2. Personal Data We Process
HuurScout processes your personal data because you use our services and/or you provide it to us. This may include:
- Phone number
- Email address
- Other personal data actively provided by creating a profile, in correspondence, or by phone
- Data about your activities on our website or in our mobile application
- Internet browser and device type
- Location data (when using the map functionality powered by Mapbox, only with your consent)
3. Sensitive and/or Special Personal Data We Process
Our website, services, and app are not intended for children under 16 years of age, unless parental or guardian consent is provided. We cannot guarantee the age of a visitor. We encourage parents to monitor their children’s online activity to avoid unintended data collection.
4. Purpose and Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
- Handling your payment (via Apple’s in-app purchase system, managed by RevenueCat)
- Being able to call or email you to perform our services
- Delivering goods and services to you
- Providing technical support and consultancy services
- Conducting market research and analyses
- Improving the user experience, app functionality, and marketing performance through analytics tools (see Section 8)
The legal bases for processing are performance of a contract, legitimate interest, and your consent (for marketing/analytics tracking).
5. Automated Decision-Making
HuurScout does not use automated decision-making with significant legal or similar consequences for individuals.
6. Retention of Personal Data
We retain personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected:
- Email address → 7 years (Dutch Tax Authority requirement)
- Phone number → 7 years (Dutch Tax Authority requirement)
- Other personal data → 7 years (Dutch Tax Authority requirement)
7. Sharing Personal Data with Third Parties
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only:
- With third-party processors to perform our services (e.g., Mapbox for maps, RevenueCat for subscription management)
- With analytics/marketing platforms (see Section 8) to improve performance and user experience
- When legally required
We sign Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with processors to ensure GDPR compliance.
8. Cookies, Analytics & Tracking Technologies
HuurScout uses technical, functional, and analytical cookies. We also use the following analytics/tracking tools:
- Google Analytics (website performance & usage analytics)
- Meta Pixel (advertising performance tracking for Facebook & Instagram)
- TikTok Pixel (advertising performance tracking for TikTok)
- Microsoft Clarity (session replay & heatmap analytics)
These tools may set cookies and process anonymized or pseudonymized usage data. You can opt out of cookies by adjusting your browser settings. The App will request tracking permission per Apple’s AppTrackingTransparency framework on iOS before enabling such tracking.
9. Your Rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Withdraw consent for processing
- Object to processing based on legitimate interest
- Request data portability
